Bathinda, The City of Lakes

Bathinda is named after the Bhatti Rajput kings who ruled here for many years. It is one of the oldest and historical city of Punjab due to Qila Mubarak-a historical monument, in the heart of the city, where first woman emperor of India, Razia Sultan was imprisoned in 1239. The city has came into prominence recently with the establishment of Guru Gobind Singh Refinery, Bathinda (a unit of HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd.). This city has three thermal power plants, NFL plant, Vardhman Polytex Limited, transformer industry, Verka Milk Plant etc. The government plans to construct a five star hotel, an international airport and a word class cricket stadium in the city. The city is proud of having Central University of Punjab & various government managed colleges of high repute. State government propose to established the AIIMS and international Cricket Stadium. The city is well connected to the rest of the country by rail and road.
